Don’t Be Afraid of Change

April 6, 2016

Change for many is a source of fear, which is an unpleasant emotion being afraid. Change is an inevitable part of business, so those who view change with fear tend to spend far too much energy trying unsuccessfully to avoid it. Here is how I faced change in our editorial department and how it will affect the magazine you trust — Airport Business.

On the first day back from New Year’s 2016 our previous editor choose to leave the magazine for a new opportunity and we wish her all the best. Assessing where Airport Business is and where we wanted to take the magazine, we started our search for a new editor. Determined to not be fearful of change, we decided to continue what is working and look for opportunities to grow Airport Business. We started our search to recruit an editor to lead us forward down a new path. This process was an incredible opportunity and there’s no doubt we have two incredible people that will work with and help lead the airport industry.

As you saw in our February/March issue, we introduced both our new editors who exceeded expectations. Much of that issue was in place when they joined us, so starting with this issue you will experience growth and deep dives into areas of interest to you. We want you to put down every issue and learn and become more valuable to your company and our industry. My message to our new editors was keep what is working for Airport Business and make changes to help us grow. There was no fear in their eyes as they immediately took the reins and started implementing change and looking for opportunities for growth.

Joe Petrie is our editor-in-chief. He comes from Mass Transit magazine and we just returned from an airport symposium where we ask a lot of questions about what you, as leaders in the aviation industry want in a magazine and what information you seeking that would be valuable to you and your company.

Benet Wilson is our senior editor and brings a very impressive resume in aviation and her true passion airports. As you can see in this issue her contacts and insight will be invaluable to the market.

Fear was never an option moving forward for Airport Business just as we embrace change by flying into a stormy sky — or as a more famous person than me said about fear and opportunity.
