Growing up near Syracuse International Airport (SYR), Nicholas McLaughlin was always fascinated by aviation. With F-16s flying out of the airport regularly, McLaughlin wanted to be a pilot, but his glasses and “not being a big fan of heights” limited that dream.
But in high school an assistant principal was a general aviation pilot who taught a charting class, which McLaughlin said he enjoyed.
“I love to fly. I love going up in an airline,” he said. “And being able to help my clients; that’s my favorite part of the job.
McLaughlin has 13 years of experience in aviation design and project management of civil aviation and industrial building projects. As a managing engineer for the eastern region aviation group for C&S Companies, he plays a key role at C&S managing projects, maintaining clients, developing staff and expanding the company’s aviation consulting services in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. McLaughlin developed relationships with clients in the region and also led an effort to open a regional office for the company in Philadelphia.
He also acts as the company’s technical expert for pavement and EMAS design while managing multiple projects at any given time.
McLaughlin recently managed major main runway rehabilitation projects at Millville Airport, Cape May Airport and Ocean County Airport in New Jersey. He was also the EMAS coordination leader for the $41 million Runway 5 Extension project at T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island.
He is the client manager for multiple airports in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. At Trenton-Mercer Airport, he managed $30 million dollars of projects that included the rehabilitation of Taxiways “H”, “B” and “F” and four engineered material arresting systems.
In addition to his duties, McLaughlin also acts as a coach and mentor for C&S engineers across the U.S.
McLaughlin is a member of the Aviation Council of Pennsylvania and New Jersey Aviation Association. He is active in the community where he has been a member of the Salvation Army’s Young Leaders Advisory Council since 2005. Acting as the vice chair from 2012 to 2015 and chair from 2015 to 2016.
He’s active in corporate STEM outreach activities that introduce and encourage middle and high school students to enter technical fields.
McLaughlin received the 2013 C&S Founders Award that recognizes C&S staff members who exhibit the spirit of the C&S founders in their day-to-day duties and the 2016 C&S Mac Award that recognizes a C&S staff members who has made a significant contribution in their community.
