The federal infrastructure bill officially became law with President Joe Biden recently signing the legislation. The bill will provide an additional $25 billion in funding to airports on top of regular Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding and passenger facilities charges (PFC) collected by airports on a local level.
The following is a breakdown of funding dedicated to airports from the bill by state according to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). These funds will be available over a five-year period and can be used to address airside and landside needs, such as improving runways, taxiways, airport-owned towers, noise reduction projects and terminal developments.
Airports from all states will also be able to apply for additional funding from a $5 billion discretionary fund for airport terminal development projects addressing aging infrastructure, which includes projects expanding access for persons with disabilities, access for historically disadvantaged populations, energy efficiency projects and improved airfield safety projects.
