Your Airport: the Oasis

July 19, 2017

Airports are retail stores, restaurants, a quick cuppa, or a new pair of sunglasses, all while waiting to depart for a short hop or a trip ‘round-the-world or to anywhere else in the world. You can charge your cell phone free at the airport, watch TV, or buy a shirt.

I’ve taken many a nap at many airports, but had to cut back on that after 9/11.

I once dropped $200 cash while turning in my rental car, then got directions to the coffee shop. As I sat there inhaling my much-needed coffee, the rental-car lady came in, walked over and asked if I’d lost any money. I said no, she said I’d better check. I checked and she was right. I thanked her and gave her a $20. She tried to give it back but I wouldn’t take it. We were both happy.

At another airport I rented a car, drove off, then received a cell phone call. It was my wife, telling me that I’d left my American Express card at the rental car counter. The lady looked through my file then called my home. I drove back to the airport, got the card back, and she got a tip.

I have slept at the Atlanta airport three times during blizzards. Tell me now, how many retail stores would let you sleep in the store all night?

There must be a million more stories of friendly folks at airports.

Why don’t airports brag about such service? I dunno, but dadgummit it, they should! You are probably advertising your airport already. Just personalize your ad by sticking the good story in your ad.

BTW, if you’re wondering, I’ve rented cars in 49 states and once rented three different cars, in three different states on one day.
