T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized, full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that Matthew (Matt) G. Cummings, P.E., has been named President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 22, 2019.
A proven executive leader with over 30 years of comprehensive experience in the engineering field, Cummings has held senior executive positions and previously led a $2 Billion transportation infrastructure business at a global engineering and construction (E&C) firm. He succeeds former President and CEO Alvaro J. Piedrahita, P.E., who transitions to a new role as Chairman of the Board of Directors of TYLI Group.
“T.Y. Lin International has established itself as the go-to firm for solutions to the most difficult engineering challenges. We are globally recognized for setting the standards for excellence, innovation, and incomparable technical solutions,” said Cummings. “I look forward to building on our momentum and furthering the firm’s legacy of delivering remarkable infrastructure projects.”
Among his main objectives, Cummings plans to leverage the strength of and unite the various global infrastructure affiliates under TYLI’s parent company, the Dar Group, a leading, privately owned, professional services group comprising some of the most recognizable names in the architecture and engineering industry. Playing a leading role under the Dar Group’s infrastructure pillar, Cummings is poised to bring the group together in a meaningful way for an expanded, global presence and in support of the Dar Group’s mission of creating sustainable communities worldwide.
Deeply rooted in bridge design, TYLI is recognized worldwide for its excellence and innovation. Notable infrastructure projects include the iconic New East Span, the single-tower, self-anchored suspension span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in California; the historic Niagara Falls State Park Transformation Initiative in New York; and the landmark Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge (Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge) in Nevada and Arizona. Current projects include the new Samuel De Champlain Bridge in Canada, the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access Project in Illinois, and Panama Metro Line 2 in Panama.
In addition to his professional roles, Cummings has served in important industry leadership positions, including as past Chairman of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) and as past President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA).
Cummings received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, and completed the Wharton Management Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
