Clayton Singleton, PE, ENV SP
Aviation Engineer
RS&H, Inc.
Age 34
As a Principal Airfield Engineer at RS&H, Inc., Clayton Singleton serves as the primary client and project manager for three major airports — Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (AMA), and San Antonio International Airport (SAT). His work spans more than 50 other airports, establishing a reputation for trust, collaboration, and delivering quality solutions.
“I really want to improve the way leadership and coaching is approached in our organization and if effective, see that carried forward into the industry,” he said. “I’ve seen and heard of examples where supervisors and bosses are treated like advice dispensers where you walk up ask a question, get an answer then move on but I feel that this is the minimal level of support. Truly leading and coaching someone is getting to the core thought process so that they don’t have to keep coming back for answers.”
Singleton’s approach to engineering is marked by a deep commitment to client satisfaction and innovative problem-solving. At AUS, he collaborated on a project that delivered an iconic bus shelter, seamlessly integrating Austin's cultural identity into the design. This project earned RS&H the Prime Firm of the Year award from Austin's Small Minority Business Resources (SMBR) division. His leadership at AUS also includes managing complex projects like the AEDP Environmental Assessment and the $10 million Airfield Electrical and Pavement Improvements project, among others.
In Amarillo, Singleton manages between 7 to 10 projects at any given time, including large-scale infrastructure improvements like terminal apron replacements. He also initiated a terminal mechanical system assessment program, ensuring the maintenance of critical terminal systems. At SAT, Clayton played a pivotal role in coordinating airline gate assignments, facilitating the accommodation of larger aircraft and expanding air service.
Singleton is a dedicated mentor and active industry participant. He leads training and development initiatives within RS&H, mentors young professionals, and actively contributes to the South Central Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (SCCAAAE). His outreach efforts extend to local communities, where he has coordinated educational programs for students, inspiring the next generation of engineers.
