Pocatello Regional Airport Reduces Electricity Consumption Equivalent to 13 Homes
Things are looking bright at Pocatello Regional Airport.
Recently, Pocatello Regional Airport swapped out the lights in the terminal and maintenance shop for energy-efficient LED lighting. The effort was made possible through an Idaho Power incentive program that covered some of the cost. Annually, the conversion is estimated to save the airport nearly $9,500 in energy costs and reduce its electricity consumption by 153,630 kilowatt-hours—enough energy to power more than 13 homes for a year.
“We’re pleased that we were able to participate in the incentive program and help conserve energy as well as provide better lighting for our patrons,” said Kristy Heinz, Management Assistant. “Thank you to Idaho Power for helping us make the switch. Without their assistance, we would not have been able to fund the up-front costs.”
Total cost of the project was $17,166.50. Pocatello Regional Airport chipped in $4,229.19 while Idaho Power’s incentive covered $12,937.31.
The airport’s effort is the fourth time since 2016 the City of Pocatello has utilized Idaho Power’s incentive program. In 2018, the Marshall Public Library’s interior lights and the exterior lighting at City Hall were converted. The Community Recreation Center lights were changed out in 2016.
