One man died Saturday afternoon when the single-engine airplane he was in crashed at the Byron Airport in eastern Contra Costa County, officials said.
The victim was apparently the pilot, who was the only one in the aircraft, according to a spokesman with the Contra Costa Fire Protection District. A small fire that erupted when the plane hit the earth at around 1:30 p.m. was quickly extinguished.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash. The victim’s identification was not released.
