Wilmington International Airport Director Voted Out of Job

June 11, 2021

Jun. 11—The New Hanover County Airport Authority voted this week to end the employment of Julie Wilsey as director of Wilmington International Airport.

"The airport authority voted to opt-out of Ms. Wilsey's employment agreement," airport authority chair Donna Girardot told the StarNews Thursday.

The vote took place at a meeting on Tuesday and was unanimous for the seven-member Authority, Girardot said. A notice for the Tuesday meeting states it was a closed session to discuss a "personnel matter."

Girardot said she is not able to comment on the reason for ending Wilsey's employment. Wilsey will remain employed at the airport for the next 30 days, according to Girardot.

When asked about the board's next steps to replacing Wilsey, Girardot said it was too early to comment.

"It's still too early in the process," she said.

Wilsey has been the director at Wilmington International Airport since 2015. She started in the position after the retirement of Jon Rosborough. Before that, she was the airport's deputy director. Wilsey has worked at the airport since 1999, according to past StarNews reports.
