Video: 'Frustrated' Ted Cruz Argues with Montana Airport Staff over Missed Flight
Mar. 21—Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was allegedly involved in a dispute with employees at a Montana airport over the weekend that escalated to the point a public safety officer had to intervene, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
In a 23-second video posted to Reddit on Sunday, Cruz was captured exchanging words with some employees at the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Sunday.
Bozeman deputy airport director Scott Humphrey told Daily Mail that Cruz was upset after he missed the check-in window for his flight. Re-booking options were "limited out of Bozeman due to Spring Break," Humphrey added.
It's unclear what exactly Cruz or airline staff said in the video, but the Reddit user who posted the video claims Cruz questioned if the employees knew who he was. The short clip shows the Republican, who has spoken vehemently against mask mandates, sporting a grey mask with the cannon reading "Come and take it" and nodding his head, seemingly annoyed.
"One of our Public Safety Officers was in the ticket lobby and was asked to assist with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter (which is not unusual)," Humphrey told Daily Mail. "Once travel options were explained to the passenger, he was rebooked and departed Bozeman later that evening. Our PSO didn't realize he was dealing with Senator Ted Cruz until after the fact."
Raw Story reporter Bob Brigham wrote that Cruz may have been attending a GOP fundraiser or other events, which Bozeman frequently hosts. Comments on the Reddit post mocked Cruz, some referencing his flight to Cancun during the February 2021 Texas freeze. "It's snowing, he had to flee the area," joked one user.
Another wrote "The most shocking part about this, he's complying with FAA regs and is masked."
Former MSNBC host Kieth Olbermann also chimed in on Twitter about the video, stating "It must've been snowing."
