Parking Lots at Cleveland Hopkins Airport are full, Due To Surging Spring Break Travel
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Heading to Cleveland Hopkins airport this week? You might want to ask your neighbor to drive you.
All four city-owned airport parking lots were full Thursday afternoon, as spring-break traffic surges for the first time in three years.
Privately-owned lots on Snow Road were nearly full, as well, and were strongly advising travelers to make reservations for a parking spot ahead of time.
“We have been stressing to all guests that reservations – especially during peak travel periods – are extremely important as it’s the only way to guarantee parking accommodations,” said Will Coleman, a spokesman for Fast Park and Park Place, two privately-owned lots on Snow Road.
Coleman said the lots had “very limited” availability as of Thursday afternoon.
Park ‘N Fly, also on Snow Road, also is strongly recommending reservations to travelers.
Spring break travel is typically a very busy time for Cleveland Hopkins, although it hasn’t been in recent years. The coronavirus pandemic shut down air travel in March 2020, and many Americans were still cautious about flying in early 2021.
This spring, however, travel demand is surging. Nationwide this week, passenger levels are at about 90% of traffic from this time three years ago and nearly 50% higher than 2021, according to figures from the Transportation Security Administration.
Cleveland Hopkins operates four on-site parking facilities, including the Orange, Blue and Red lots, plus the Smart Parking Garage. All four were listed as full on the airport website Thursday afternoon. Making matters worse, several hundred spaces inside the garage are currently blocked off for repair work, which is scheduled to start this spring.
