July 11, 2024

An airline is taking passengers from the Kansas City cold to a new, warm destination at the start of 2025.

Alaska Airlines announced Wednesday that it will start a weekly nonstop service from Kansas City International Airport to Puerto Vallarta International Airport on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, beginning Jan. 18, 2025.

The flights take off every Saturday and will run until April 5, 2025, according to Alaska Airlines. The service will be the only nonstop route to Puerto Vallarta from Kansas City.

“To cater to increased leisure demand to warm weather destinations during winter, we’re also adding new service to our most popular vacation spots in Mexico,” the airline said in a statement.

In addition to Puerto Vallarta, Alaska Airlines will also take guests from KCI to Cancun from Jan. 18 through June 7, 2025. It’s the third airline to take Kansas Citians directly to Cancun, Mexico. Southwest Airlines and Frontier offer seasonal nonstop service to the destination.

“( Kansas City International Airport) is a top unserved market to PVR and a route we’ve been working on for years. Thank you, Alaska Airlines,” Justin Meyer, the deputy director with the Kansas City Aviation Department, said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
