Frontier Airlines Flight from California Bursts Into Flames During Emergency Landing in Las Vegas
Oct. 6—A Frontier Airlines flight from California appeared to burst into flames Saturday during an emergency landing in Las Vegas.
Flight 1326 from San Diego International Airport to Harry Reid International Airport, operated by an Airbus A321, was in the process of landing at approximately 3:15 p.m. when the pilots detected smoke and declared an emergency, according to a statement from Frontier.
A video of the incident shared on social media captured the plane moving across the tarmac, with flames and smoke seemingly emanating from beneath the aircraft, close to its wheels. A dense trail of smoke trailed behind it.
Despite the dramatic footage, Frontier said the aircraft landed safely and all 190 passengers and seven crew members were evacuated via airstairs. The passengers were taken to the terminal via bus.
No injuries were reported, Frontier said.
"The cause of the incident is currently under investigation," the airline added.
Flight 1326 "experienced a hard landing," a spokesperson for Harry Reid International Airport confirmed.
A ground stop, which stops the flow of air traffic, was enforced until 7 p.m. Saturday as the Federal Aviation Administration investigated the incident.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced Sunday that it is initiating an investigation into the emergency landing.
