KCI Passengers Up 6.2 Percent in May

The city of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 999,418 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in May, up 6.2 percent from May 2015. For the year to date, total passengers in and out are 4,285,851, up 6.2 percent. May passenger boardings were up 5.8 percent, with a total of 510,419. For the year to date, boardings are 2,151,245, up 6.2 percent.

“With nearly one million passengers using the airport, last month was the fourth-busiest May in the history of KCI,” said Pat Klein, director of aviation. “We are thankful to our airline partners for continuing to respond to the increasing travel needs of Kansas City fliers with more flights, new nonstop destinations and larger aircraft.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 3.1 percent in May with a total of 15.7 million pounds handled, and 82.4 million pounds handled year to date, up 6.3 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during May amounted to 15.4 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 5.3 percent. Year to date, air freight is up 7.5 percent with a total of 80.3 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for May was 170. Service was offered to 45 nonstop markets. There was an average of 39,514 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 6 daily departures for May.
