Aug. 26, 2016

Passenger traffic rose more than three percent at General Mitchell International Airport in June.

June passengers totaled 611,001, an increase of 3.4 percent from the 591,145 total that was recorded in June of 2015.

“New nonstop routes from Frontier and Southwest helped boost our numbers, and I’m glad an increasing number of travelers from both Wisconsin and Illinois are taking advantage of the new service,” County Executive Chris Abele said.  “Booking your travel from our hometown airport helps us recruit more airlines and more destinations, so I encourage travelers in our region to keep choosing MKE.”

Southwest Airlines launched Saturday service to San Diego in June, which increased to daily service earlier this month. Frontier Airlines also launched a new nonstop flight to Philadelphia in June.

Passenger traffic for the first half of 2016 is up 3.2 percent from the same period last year.  Year-to-date air freight numbers are up nearly 19 percent from the previous year.
