On Sept. 1, the ceremony for the maiden voyage of Air China Limited's Shanghai-San Jose was held at Terminal 2 of Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
At the ceremony, vice president of the China National Aviation Holding Company Cao Jianxiong stated that the direct flight from Shanghai to San Jose is Air China's first air route to North America in Shanghai. In addition, Air China is the only airline in China providing nonstop Shanghai-San Jose service. The opening of the air route offers those engaged in commercial activities, or others who just want to get away with a brand-new and convenient route.
To welcome the launch of the Shanghai-San Jose service, Air China rolled out a series of preferential products: For tourists who buy Shanghai-San Jose air tickets before September 30, round-trip business class tickets start from RMB13,000 and round-trip economy class tickets start from RMB1,300 (tax-excluded); other special offers are available on Air China's official website. In addition, for PhoenixMiles members who purchase a seat on a Shanghai-San Jose flight, entering the PhoenixMiles website and signing in before takeoff can earn economy class passengers another 30% of unrated mileage, and business class passengers another 50% of unrated mileage.
Air China's launch of their Shanghai-San Jose service expanded its airline network in America, grew its global airline network with Shanghai as an international port, and further optimized and integrated its airline network layout in east China. In the summer and autumn of 2016, Air China serves a total of 36 destinations in Shanghai, of which 14 are international and regional flights and 22 are domestic.
