General Mitchell International Sees Continued Growth

Nov. 15, 2016

Expanded airline offerings are paying dividends as Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport saw an increase of 7.95 percent in the number of passengers passing through its gates in September.

In September, 540,629 passengers used MKE, nearly 40,000 more than September 2015. The growth continues a positive trend with passenger numbers increasing eight out of the first nine months this year, and 3.16 percent growth year to date.

New air service from ultra-low cost carrier Frontier Airlines attracted travelers from Wisconsin and northern Illinois looking for low airfares. Since September 2015, Frontier has added nonstop service from MKE to Dallas, Las Vegas and Philadelphia. Frontier is also launching nonstop service to Phoenix on December 7th.

“The combination of new air service and our easy, convenient airport experience is creating a great buzz about Mitchell International Airport in Wisconsin and northern Illinois,” said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele. “Heading into the holidays, we are hoping to see even more of our neighbors from the south giving MKE a try.”
