Southwest Florida International Airport Reports December Traffic
During December, 840,501 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 0.6 percent compared to December 2015. Year-to-date, passenger traffic was up 2.8 percent from the same period last year.
“December passenger numbers helped us reach a new record of 8.6 million passengers in 2016, making it the best year since Southwest Florida International Airport opened in 1983,” said Jeff Mulder, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority. “We want to thank our airline partners who provide quality air service and the traveling public for choosing to fly in and out of RSW.”
The traffic leader in December was Delta Air Lines with 166,006 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (153,949), JetBlue (113,450), American (109,654) and Spirit (104,595).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 8,102 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 1.2 percent compared to December 2015. Page Field saw 8,685 movements, a 5.6 percent increase from December 2015. In addition, more than 3.8 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in December 2016, a decrease 3 percent compared to December 2015.
