Houston Airport System Goes Live With Infax Smart Restroom Pilot

Feb. 13, 2017

The Houston Airport System launched a pilot version of the new Infax Smart Restroom solution to help improve facility operations and customer service in two of Houston’s airports.

Four restrooms at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and two restrooms at William P. Hobby Airport received the pilot solution late in January, with plans to expand it to every restroom this spring. The system was strategically implemented in time for the arrival of Houston’s Super Bowl LI guests.

Mario Diaz, city of Houston aviation director, credits passenger feedback as the driving force behind Smart Restroom’s implementation. “Passengers have repeatedly told us through customer survey results that clean and modern restroom facilities rank at or near the top of their priority list,” Diaz says. “This pilot program is proof that we’re hearing that message and working hard to meet their expectations.”

The Smart Restroom solutions installed at Bush Airport and Hobby Airport use Infax TRAX sensors to count passenger throughput and feedback surveys to monitor passenger satisfaction. The airports also received TRAX Smart Badges, which allow airport personnel to passively monitor janitorial staff using beacon technology. Each badge is registered to a specific staff member to help personnel identify who cleaned which restroom, when, and for how long.

“By combining the hard work of our dedicated staff and this impressive technical tool, we’re confident that this pilot program will result in a greatly enhanced overall customer experience,” Diaz said.
After Houston expands the system in the spring, Bush Airport and Hobby Airport will be the first facilities to take Smart Restroom airport-wide.

The Infax Smart Restroom solution is the first of its kind in the aviation industry. By combining video analytic technology with passenger participation data, airports are equipped to provide the best customer service possible to their passengers.
