Denver International Airport Welcomes Norwegian With Nonstop Flights to London
On April 5, Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Denver International Airport (DEN) and Norwegian announced that the airline will begin offering nonstop service from Denver to London/Gatwick beginning Sept. 16. This is the first time since 2012 that DEN has announced a new foreign-flag carrier.
“Norwegian’s announcement today of nonstop service to London further solidifies Denver’s position as a global city,” said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock. “We are pleased that Norwegian has chosen to invest in Denver, and we look forward to a successful long-term partnership.”
The new service will operate twice a week, on Saturdays and Tuesdays, through Oct. 28. Starting on Nov. 2, the service will increase to three times a week, with an additional flight on Thursdays. The flight is scheduled to arrive at DEN at 12:40 p.m. and depart DEN at 2:40 p.m. It will operate using a Boeing 787-9 with 344 seats, only the second carrier at DEN to operate this aircraft.
“Denver International Airport is delighted to welcome Norwegian to our growing family of airline partners,” said airport CEO Kim Day. “Not only will these flights provide more options for travelers, but they will stimulate the market and increase travel between Denver and London as well as other points in Norwegian’s larger European network.”
Currently, nearly 400 people a day travel between Denver and London, ranking London as Denver’s largest long-haul market, and second-largest international market – only Cancun, Mexico, generates more demand.
From an economic standpoint, the United Kingdom ranks as the Colorado’s largest foreign investor, and the commercial relationship between Colorado and the United Kingdom generated over $400 million in trade in 2016. Norwegian’s new nonstop flight to London/Gatwick will bring more economic benefits by generating an estimated 655 new jobs and more than $75 million in annual economic impact to the State of Colorado. Nearly 80 percent of this impact is due to new visitors to Colorado.
