British Airways on April 24, revealed details for the modernization of Terminal 7 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. New CGI images give customers a first glimpse of what the terminal will look like following a $65 million investment, which will transform the airport experience.
The redesign will be complete at the end of 2018 and will include:
- The introduction of an authentic New York culinary experience with local food and beverage concepts to satisfy a variety of tastes.
- An enhanced, spacious check-in area for a fast, efficient customer journey.
- An exclusive premium check-in zone and waiting area, with access to fast track security.
- An immersive retail environment for easy access to duty free shopping and concessions.
- New gate seating areas and work stations, for customer comfort and convenience.
- Redesigned and updated lounges with more space to relax, dine, and work.
SSP America has been awarded a long-term contract to transform the entire culinary experience at Terminal 7. British Airways will focus on bringing New York tastes to the travelers passing through the airport. In addition, customers will be able to see the surrounding boarding areas from the comfort of their dining area, allowing them to relax before they fly.
Customers will be able to enjoy a range of cuisines and refreshments including:
- American classic comfort food at the main restaurant, Brindle Room. This will be the first time that Chef-owner, former Food Network’s Chopped contestant, and popular hometown personality, Jeremy Spector has adapted his east village fare for an airport experience.
- Gourmet sandwiches using premium ingredients and house made everything at Boomwich, the brainchild of Brooklyn natives, Peter Entner of Pete Zaaz and Michael Kogan.
- Big Apple no-nonsense burgers, straight up with a big bag of fries from the award winning NYC Burger Joint, born of the Le Parker Meridien.
- Rolls, bowls, burgers and buns hot off the grill from Kobeyaki - chef-led Japanese food, made to order. The NYC hotspot was the brainchild of entrepreneurial trio Brian Konopka, Brian Kelly and Chef Salvador Barrera.
- A world class wine bar unique to Terminal 7, from FIKA. The trendy chain will also be serving local roast coffee, homemade pastries, exquisite chocolates and beautiful small plates. Founder and co-owner, Lars Åkerlund, opened the first FIKA location at Central Park South, and has now expanded to include 18 restaurants and shops across the city.
The new images provide Terminal 7 travelers a glimpse of the spacious check-in area. For British Airways customers, there will be a separate Club World (business class) section and a VIP First space, designed with customer privacy in mind. The intimate space takes inspiration from the new First Wing that opened at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5 earlier this month.
Customers will immediately exit into a contemporary concourse where they can take advantage of duty free shopping or continue to one of the nearby restaurants or lounges. Customers will never be more than five minutes away from their departure gate, where new seating will be installed.
British Airways’ iconic Concorde Room will be refurbished offering customers the height of luxury. Business class and First customers will benefit from redesigned lounges with more space, modern conveniences and a focus on the features that they enjoy most, such as pre-flight dining.
British Airways is also pleased to be welcoming Alaska Airlines and Virgin America to Terminal 7. The move, which will be completed by October 2017, will allow the airlines’ customers to take advantage of all the new features and offerings in British Airways’ JFK investment plan.
