The redevelopment of LAX Terminal 1 is nearly complete, and Westfield has announced the fourth and final competitive process to be part of the modernization of the enhanced Southwest Airlines terminal.
Working together with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Southwest, Westfield’s final Terminal 1 offer includes more than 11,000 square feet and opportunities for a future marketplace and café/coffee.
Deviating from a conventional food court, the Marketplace will deliver a blend of contemporary local flavors and sophisticated national brands. The category recommendations include Mexican, sandwich, Asian, burger and Mediterranean.
“This CEP is part of a $500 million modernization being spearheaded by Southwest Airlines,” said Keith Kaplan, Westfield’s vice president at LAX. “The T1 experience has undergone an unbelievable transformation and Southwest has set the bar really high for what’s expected of this terminal. There are some big opportunities in this final CEP and there’s already a buzz in the industry.”
To promote creativity and balance costs, proposers of the Marketplace offering may choose to accept a Westfield-designed option or reimagine the space their own way. More information about the options available by clicking here.

The LAX Terminal 1 overhaul is slated for completion in 2018. When finished, Terminal 1 will feature 20 world-class dining and retail concepts with a bold new terminal design spanning 25,252 feet—nearly double that of the old terminal.
In addition, Southwest is upgrading the customer gate areas, giving the terminal a fresh new look, while providing a more efficient customer experience.
The design theme for LAX Terminal 1 is “The Unexpected,” which will bring the space to life with open and expanded views of flight operations and inviting sightlines outside, as well as the authentic layers of materials and finishes, sculpted facades and pops of color inside. The terminal will have a hip, modern feel that taps into L.A. and the energy of the Southwest traveler.
The first two phases of the Terminal 1 redevelopment introduced Southwest customers to a fresh, new retail and dining collection that included Rock & Brews—from KISS front men Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley – as well as Be Relax, Brookstone, I Love L.A., SOL Surf, Treat Me Sweet, Deli & Co., California Pizza Kitchen, Coffee Bean and Reilly’s Irish Pub.
The third phase of Terminal 1 is in development and expected to be completed in 2018.
