MTL Consolidates Its Position as an International Hub
Aéroports de Montréal celebrated the addition of new direct destinations departing from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, namely Lima in Peru, announced by Air Canada this morning, bringing Montréal-Trudeau’s direct destinations to some 140 annual or seasonal flights.
“With the addition of Lima to its Montreal network, Air Canada is again showing its desire to develop Montréal–Trudeau as a strategic hub,” The accelerated growth of our air service confirms Montréal-Trudeau’s position as an international hub, giving Montréal an ever-expanding reach, and one that is most opportune in the lead-up to the city’s 375th anniversary,” stated Philippe Rainville, President and CEO of Aéroports de Montréal, with pride.
The flight to Lima, announced by Air Canada, will become the first non-stop flight between Montréal and South America as of next December, and will initially be offered at a frequency of twice per week.
Several new destinations or routes are also offered this year, starting with Shanghai flights, launched last February. By adding Air Canada’s daily flights to Shanghai to Air China’s five flights to Beijing, we arrive at a total of 12 flights to China per week, or about 3,300 seats.
Some new destinations, Montréal will be linked to Tel Aviv for the first time, and by two different airlines: Air Transat and Air Canada. Air Transat will also service the city of Porto for the first time this summer with direct flights.
Additionally, Air Canada will operate new routes to Reykjavik, Algiers, Marseille, Dallas and Phoenix, while WestJet will fly to Halifax, Québec City and Boston for the first time. We should also mention that Icelandair is resuming its flights to Reykjavik. AeroMexico, for its part, has doubled the number of departures to the Mexican capital to 14 weekly flights.
