Denver International Airport Canine Airport Therapy Squad to Participate in Annual Furry Scurry

May 5, 2017

For the second year in a row, 22 members of the Denver International Airport (DEN) Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS) will participate in the annual Dumb Friends League “Furry Scurry” fundraising walk on May 6.

The CATS team will wear their signature Spyder Active Sports blue plaid uniforms and will be on hand to meet other participants at the “Furry Scurry.” The CATS team will provide information about the popular airport program at a booth at the event in Washington Park and each of the handlers will hand out trading cards featuring their K-9 companion.

The 2-mile walk around Denver’s Washington Park raises money for the Dumb Friends League, which cares for more than 20,000 homeless pets each year. The event helps the organization pay for medical care for sick or injured animals, behavior training that allows pets to be adopted more quickly and supports investigations of animal neglect or mistreatment.

The airport launched its popular CATS therapy dog program in October 2015 with 27 dogs. The program brings certified therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers to the airport to surprise and delight passengers. Today, the program has more than doubled in size with 71 dogs, representing 35 breeds, and their owners.

“The Denver International Airport CATS program has helped bring a smile to thousands of passengers each day,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “These beloved dogs and their dedicated volunteer handlers add warmth and joy to the DEN airport experience. We are proud that our CATS team is once again participating in this worthwhile community event.”
