South Bend International Airport to Introduce Pet Relief Area
South Bend International Airport (SBN) will debut a newly constructed Pet Relief Area post-security, on May 24, at 10 a.m. This event will be in conjunction with guests from Pet Refuge, both human and furry. Due to the Pet Relief Area’s location, media must arrive by 9:45 a.m. and check-in at Airport Information, located across from the United ticket counter and near baggage claim, to be escorted through security.
Recently, SBN employees participated in a weight loss challenge inspired by the “Biggest Loser.” Employees were divided into three teams – maintenance, safety, and operations and administration. Participation in the program was voluntary and cost $10.00. The maintenance department had the highest percent of weight loss and chose Pet Refuge as the organization to receive funds collected from the program. The St. Joseph County Airport Authority matched the funds provided by the 29 participants. Members of the maintenance team will present $580.00 to Pet Refuge upon the unveiling.
“The new Pet Relief Area is more convenient for pets and owners alike,” said Mike Daigle, South Bend International Airport’s executive director. “I am proud of our team’s weight loss effort and equally pleased to donate $580.00 to Pet Refuge as a result of our participants’ hard work.”
