Rep. John Sauls Announces Support For Lee County Infrastructure Investments Contained in State Budget
Rep. John Sauls announced support June 21, for the 2017 state budget that includes important infrastructure investments for Lee County. Among other important achievements, the budget makes important strides to modernize our transportation network by providing additional funding to airports across the state for infrastructure improvements, and to the State Ports Authority for infrastructure and dredging needs.
“I am pleased to announce that our 2017 state budget signals the regional economic importance of Lee County’s Raleigh Executive Jetport,” said Representative John Sauls. “The state’s investment into Sanford should signal surrounding communities and our entire region that we can provide a return on investment which will attract more business aviation activity and raise local tax revenues.”
A 2014 economic benefits study conducted by the state of North Carolina found TTA provides more than $32 million in economic impact to the local community, and is responsible for more than 300 indirect and direct jobs. It is also home to Wings of Carolina, one of the largest flying clubs in the country, with more than 450 members.*
The 2017 state budget provides funding for capital improvements at the Raleigh Executive Jetport, located in Sanford, in the amount of $4 million. The net appropriation for the Airports Program in the state budget is $98,400,417 in fiscal year 2017-18 and $126,917,417 in fiscal year 2018-19.
