Cleveland Hopkins Airport Continues Steady Passenger Growth During 2017
Since March, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) has exceeded 2016 monthly passenger numbers through October. During the busy summer months of June-August last year, which included the Republican National Convention (RNC), Cleveland welcomed 2,348,129 passengers. This handily surpassed the record set during the RNC by more than 298,000 passengers.
In October of this year CLE welcomed 816,543 guests versus 741,363 guests in 2016. Year-to-date CLE has accommodated 7,677,639 guests compared to 7,120,243 in 2016 year-to-date, which is almost an 8 percent growth of 557,396 passenger increase.
“Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is creating new ways to enhance the visitor experience,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “Whether it is because of the new in-line system or the addition of two international airline services to Europe, Cleveland continues to be a top point of departure and destination of choice. It is for these and many other reasons Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is experiencing a growth of over 550,000 customers this year over last year.”
“The increase in passengers this year has exceeded earlier forecasts,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “We anticipate we will close out this year welcoming more than 9 million passengers to CLE, which will match or surpass passenger numbers before the significant reduction in air service in 2014. That is truly something to be proud of.”
