Kansas City International Airport Passenger Traffic Increases 5% in October

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,018,377 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in October, a 5 percent increase from October 2016. Passenger boardings were up 4 percent, with a total of 502,624 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 9,634,868, up 4.5 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 4,810,781, up 4.4 percent.

“Despite fewer flights than last year, passenger traffic at KCI resumed its ascent last month,” said Kansas City Director of Aviation Pat Klein. “With more than one million total passengers served, last month was the airport’s busiest October in 17 years.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 1.2 percent in October with a total of 17.5 million pounds handled. Year to date, 170.1 million pounds have been handled, down 1.7 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during October amounted to 16.7 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 0.7 percent. Year to date, air freight is down 3.1 percent with a total of 162.5 million pounds handled. Air mail for October was up 13.6 percent from October 2016 with 777,668 pounds handled. Air mail is up 44.6 percent year to date with 7.6 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for October 2017 was 167. Service was offered to 47 nonstop markets. There was an average of 40,395 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for October.
