OTG and United Airlines Now Offer Fresh Fish From Tokyo’s Famed Tsukiji Market at Newark Liberty International Airport
Customers traveling through United’s Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) now have access to some of New York’s freshest sushi.
Tsukiji Fishroom, located within the Global Bazaar next to Gate C75 in Terminal C, features a variety of takeaway sushi options. What makes this new eatery so unique is that the fish sold here is flown directly from Tokyo’s iconic Tsukiji Fish Market, the largest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world, similar to how many of the world’s top sushi restaurants source their fish.
“Customers can now enjoy the highest quality of sushi at the airport, as opposed to ‘airport sushi,’” said Nate Appleman, Vice President of Culinary at OTG and James Beard award winning chef. “By sourcing from and working directly with a supplier at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, we ensure a level of sushi not before seen in an airport.”
The fish offered is seasonal, based on availability and peak freshness, with initial selections including hotate, amadai, hamachi, saba and tako. The fish flown in several times a week from Tokyo will be prepared by OTG’s sushi chefs to supply the freshest fish not just to the new Fishroom but soon also throughout the entire terminal.
OTG already operates two restaurants serving sushi in Terminal C – Surf and Caps Beer Garden – which will also be serving fish flown direct from Tokyo. Similarly, in the coming weeks, Tsukiji Fishroom will begin supplying OTG’s CIBO Express Gourmet Markets throughout the terminal with the upgraded sushi offering.
“With an average of 38,500 travelers moving through Terminal C each day, our operations have also increased in scope accordingly,” said Rick Blatstein, OTG’s Chief Executive Officer. “OTG’s restaurants all feature from-scratch cooking, and now with our unique partnership with Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, our sushi chefs can provide the freshest sushi and the best quality to all our restaurants and markets throughout the terminal.”
OTG manages 55 restaurants and fast casual outlets in Terminal C, all of which feature from scratch dining.
“We’re excited that United customers will now be able to enjoy delicious sushi in our terminal that is on par with New York City’s best Japanese restaurants,” said Jill Kaplan, United’s President of New York and New Jersey. “The New York Times described our terminal as a ‘culinary oasis’ and we continue to work with OTG to create a world-class airport experience for our New York area customers.”
