DOT Receives Two  Proposals for Seasonal Essential Air Service at BHB

April 6, 2018

On April 6, the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) was advised by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that they received two proposals before the deadline for seasonal essential air service to provide scheduled air service to the airport.

Both proposals are now available to view on the airport's website. The Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) will meet April 10 at 5 p.m. at the Airport Fire Station Training and Conference Room located at 115 Caruso Drive, Trenton to discuss the proposals and to make a recommendation to the county commissioners.

The county commissioners are planning to hold a special meeting on April 13 at 8:30 a.m. at the Commissioners Meeting Room in the County Courthouse building in Ellsworth to discuss the AAC recommendation, the two proposals, and to make an official recommendation to the DOT. Both meetings are open to the public. The DOT will make the final decision.

The public is also welcome to submit comments to the USDOT by emailing:

Cape Air will continue to serve the airport on a year round basis. Seasonal service with PenAir is scheduled to resume on May 25, and will continue through June 30. BHB leaders are optimistic that we will have a smooth transition from PenAir to its new seasonal carrier on July 1.
