Punta Gorda Airport Surpasses Monthly Passenger Record

April 12, 2018

The Charlotte County Airport Authority (CCAA) announces that March 2018 was the busiest month in the history of the Punta Gorda Airport (PGD), which experienced a 36.07 percent increase in commercial passenger traffic over March 2017.

At 192,947 total Allegiant passengers, PGD’s March passenger traffic exceeded any previous month, with 94,795 boarding passengers and 98,152 arriving passengers. The record for the busiest month was previously held by March 2017 at 141,802 total passengers.

PGD has also experienced a strong increase in general aviation traffic – with its tower reporting a total of 8,282 takeoffs and landings in March 2018. Of that total, Allegiant’s takeoffs and landings totaled 1,266.

“We’re very pleased about the record commercial airline traffic at PGD and its positive impact on our tourism economy, but we’re also encouraged by the continued growth of the general aviation community,” said CCAA Board of Commissioners’ Paul Andrews. “These numbers confirm PGD’s position as a home for aviation tenants, aspiring pilots and air charters – and as a growing destination for corporate jets, recreational pilots and Allegiant customers.”

The total number of passengers traveling through PGD via Allegiant in January, February and March was 455,924 compared with 356,856 during the first quarter of 2017; a 27.76 percent average quarterly increase. The first quarter of 2018 was a 29.3 percent increase in passenger traffic over the final quarter of 2017.
