Sacramento Intl Airport Posts Four Years of Passenger Growth
More good news from Sacramento International Airport: March 2018 marked 48 consecutive months of increased passenger traffic year-over-year, setting the stage for another record-breaking year.
Close to 2.6 million passengers traveled through Sacramento International Airport in January, February, and March, a 12.1 percent increase over the same period in 2017. Passenger traffic in 2018 has surpassed previous airport records for first-quarter enplanements.
“We are seeing unmistakable momentum which we expect to continue through the end of the year,” said Director of Airports John Wheat. “We are very grateful to our airline partners, airport employees, and our customers for helping to make this happen.”
Growth was fueled by the addition of new nonstop destinations, added seat capacity on existing flights, and a robust regional economy echoing a nationwide surge in commercial air travel.
Momentum is expected to continue with the addition of new nonstop routes including:
- Seasonal service to Boston on JetBlue beginning May 3
- Daily service to Orlando beginning May 6 on Southwest
- Daily service to Vancouver beginning May 17 on Air Canada, the airport’s third international carrier. Air Canada will operate out of Terminal A.
- Seasonal service to Cabo San Lucas on Alaska Airlines running May 26 -Aug. 11, picking up again Nov. 10-Dec. 29
Sacramento International Airport served 10.9 million passengers in 2017, surpassing the previous record of 10.7 million set in 2007. It is expected to serve at least 11.5 million passengers in 2018.
