Kansas City International Airport Passenger Traffic Increases 2.1 Percent in April

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 943,884 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in April, a 2.1 percent increase from April 2017. Passenger boardings were up 2.2 percent, with a total of 474,037 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 3,543,782, up 1.8 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 1,772,103, up 1.9 percent.

“Last month marked the second-busiest April in our airport’s history,” said Kansas City Director of Aviation Pat Klein. “As more passengers are flying our airline partners are responding with new routes and additional flights. In April both Southwest and Frontier launched nonstop service between Kansas City and Raleigh/Durham, one of the most popular destinations from KCI that previously couldn’t be reached without making a connection.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 4.9 percent in April with a total of 16.7 million pounds handled. Year to date, 67.9 million pounds have been handled, up 2.3 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during April amounted to 16.1 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 7.1 percent. Year to date, air freight is up 2.8 percent with a total of 65.3 million pounds handled. Air mail for April was down 33.1 percent from April 2017 with 588,541 pounds handled. Air mail is down 9.3 percent year to date with 2.6 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for April 2018 was 173. Service was offered to 51 nonstop markets. There was an average of 40,715 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for April.
