Year-Round Transatlantic Service for the First Time in Cleveland
Icelandair is positioned to become the first airline to operate transatlantic service from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) on a year round schedule.
“Less than a year ago Icelandair, the first global airline to select Cleveland as a base, announced this week they will continue their service year-round: a clear indicator of the growing interest in Cleveland as an international business and tourist destination,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson.
“We are very excited that Icelandair has published their Cleveland (CLE) to Reykjavik (KEF) five times weekly flight schedule into July of 2019,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “This is a strong commitment from Icelandair and exciting to have the first year-round transatlantic service for northeast Ohio.”
The success of Icelandair demonstrates the strength of the Northeast Ohio region for transatlantic air service.
International passengers have risen 12.54 percent in the first six months over the first six months of 2017. In June of this year, international passengers were up 61.85 percent over June 2017, the first full month of service to Reykjavik.
