Thunder Bay Sets Summer Passenger Record
The summer ended with record volumes at Thunder Bay Airport.
As of Aug. 31, the Airport has recorded a new high of 588,076 passengers representing a 4.6 percent increase from last year.
Strong volumes from northern communities have been a significant contributor to the 2018 records. Bearskin Airlines, North Star Air and Wasaya Airways are all showing strong volumes.
A seventh weekday frequency from Porter Airlines, along with added capacity into Winnipeg from WestJet Encore have also contributed.
Volumes are expected to stay strong until the end of the year. President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Schmidtke cites the upcoming Canadian Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting and the early Sunwing start on the Cuba charter season as positive factors going forward.
