Kansas City International Airport Passenger Traffic Increases Three Percent in August

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,041,482 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in August, a three percent increase from August 2017. Passenger boardings were up 2.8 percent, with a total of 508,959 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 7,900,639, up 2.6 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 3,953,213, up 2.7 percent.

“It is amazing how our airline partners in the last four plus years continue to bring in more seats to more locations and our travelers continue to fill them,” said Pat Klein, Kansas City director of aviation. “It makes a terrific statement about this market and the region."

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up one percent in August with a total of 19 million pounds handled. Year to date, 140 million pounds have been handled, up 3.7 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during August amounted to 18.6 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of two percent. Year to date, air freight is up five percent with a total of 135 million pounds handled. Air mail for August was down 33 percent from August 2017 with 553,251 pounds handled. Air mail is down 19.4 percent year to date with 4.9 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for August 2018 was 181. Service was offered to 52 nonstop markets. There was an average of 43,533 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported six daily departures for August.
