Peter Walker New CEO of Thyssenkrupp Elevator Technology
Peter Walker is the new CEO of thyssenkrupp’s Elevator Technology business area. His appointment was resolved Dec. 13, by the Supervisory Board of thyssenkrupp Elevator AG. The 56 year old Australian succeeds Andreas Schierenbeck, who left the company on Nov. 30. Walker was already a member of the Elevator Technology Board, having taken on the role of chief operating officer on Feb. 1.
Born in Sydney, Walker studied economics and electrical engineering and is an internationally experienced elevator expert. He joined the company in 1995 and was initially in charge of business in Australia and New Zealand, from 1997 as CEO. From 2003 he significantly expanded business in the Asia Pacific region and was appointed CEO of thyssenkrupp Elevator’s Asia/Pacific business unit in 2005.
Guido Kerkhoff, CEO of thyssenkrupp AG, said, “Peter Walker is exactly the right man to tackle the challenges at Elevator. He is a longstanding expert in the elevator business, a hands-on, internationally experienced manager with the necessary operating experience to move the business forward and increase its margin.”
Walker said, “At Elevator we have outstanding employees and terrific innovations. Now we have to translate our strengths into concrete benefits for our customers and us. At the same time, we need to further reduce our administrative costs and improve our efficiency. My aim is to meet these challenges as a team with my Board colleagues Ercan Keles, Detlef Hunsdiek and all the 53.000 of us.”
