Moscow Domodedovo Airport to Build a Year-Round Resort in Moscow Aerotropolis
Governor of Moscow region Andrei Vorobyov, Director of Moscow Domodedovo Airport Igor Borisov and Development Company Sky Capital Andrei Kareev signed an agreement to build a multifunctional year-round resort, named Tropical Island. The parties have negotiated the deal during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“Thanks to Moscow region authorities support we can fulfill Moscow Aerotropolis potential to the full extent. Moscow Domodedovo Airport is transforming into an area of economic influence for ambitious development initiatives in retail, tourism, and hospitality. These businesses benefit from the airport’s close proximity stimulating accelerated growth”, claimed Director of Moscow Domodedovo Airport Igor Borisov.
The project covers a total of 50 hectares. The Tropical Island Resort will serve as a center for hotel and recreation cluster of Moscow Aerotropolis. The park will feature a developed and well-planned infrastructure for entertainment including tropical forest, beaches, cinema, planetarium, a fitness facility, and a rink.
Development Company Sky Capital plans to invest 35 billion rubles in the project. The Tropical Island Resort is scheduled to open within 6 years, creating 1000 additional jobs. The park is expected to host 4.5 million visitors annually. PJSC Sberbank, PwC, and Kosmick Company have also encouraged the project.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been actively developing Moscow Aerotropolis project. Due to the airport’s close proximity, the new airport city is going to demonstrate accelerated commercial growth. The initiative aims at building a new airport city within a 20 km radius of the air hub. Moscow Aerotropolis will include different clusters, such as commercial, recreational, business, exhibition, industrial, and agricultural. The initiative stems from the successful cases of aerotropolis development around the globe.
