Spokane International Airport Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary of Southwest Airlines Service and Launches Inaugural Nonstop Flight to San Diego

June 10, 2019

Spokane International Airport (GEG) will celebrate Southwest Airlines’ first nonstop flight to San Diego International Airport (SAN) Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Gate A15 prior to the 11:35 a.m. departure time.

“Offering a time-saving journey between Spokane and San Diego answers a demand for Southwest’s value among both business and leisure travelers,” said Andrew Watterson, Southwest Airlines Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer. “Even in the celebration of our 25th anniversary of serving Eastern Washington just this past week, we’re renewing a steadfast commitment to offer relevant service for Spokane travelers.”

“We are thrilled to see Southwest Airlines adding service to San Diego,” said Spokane Airports Board Chair Nancy Vorhees. “There is robust demand for the San Diego market from both business and leisure travelers in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene region. This service will benefit economic development attraction and retention opportunities in the region and provide another direct connection to southern California just in time for the summer vacation season.”

San Diego is one of the top ten origination and destination markets from Spokane, and over 150 people per day each way fly between the city pair on average. San Diego becomes the eighth nonstop destination served by Southwest Airlines from Spokane International Airport, joining Boise, Denver, Las Vegas, Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Jose. The once-daily flight will be served with 143-seat Boeing 737-700 jets. Tickets can be booked at www.southwest.com or by calling 800-435-9792.
