Aug. is Fourth Consecutive Month of Million-Plus Passengers at Kansas City International Airport

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,024,307 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in Aug., a 1.7 percent decrease from August 2018. Passenger boarding's were down 1.4 percent, with a total of 501,699 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 7,921,785, up 0.3 percent. Year-to-date passenger boarding's are 3,959,871, up 0.2 percent. “Aug. was the fourth consecutive month with more than one million passengers passing through Kansas City International Airport,” said Pat Klein, Kansas City director of aviation.

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI, were down 3.8 percent in Aug. with a total of 18.4 million pounds handled. Year to date, 141.4 million pounds of air cargo have been handled, up 1.0 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during August amounted to 17.8 million pounds, which is down 3.8 percent from Aug. 2018. Year to date, air freight is up 1.6 percent with a total of 137.3 million pounds handled. Air mail for Aug. was down 3.4 percent from Aug. 2018 with 534,273 pounds handled. Air mail is down 15.3 percent year to date with 4.1 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for Aug. was 173. Service was offered to 52 nonstop markets. There was an average of 42,151 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported five daily arrivals for Aug.
