Daily Flights to Philly from MLB Begin on American Airlines
Travelers can now fly between Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) every day on American Airlines. The new daily nonstop service on American Airlines called for a “Philly-style” celebration as airport officials gathered with passengers and community partners to enjoy a 2-foot-long Philly Cheesesteak, ribbon-cutting and traditional water arches over the arriving aircraft.
“American Airlines is a proud partner with Orlando Melbourne International Airport,” said Dale Morris, Senior Consultant for Governmental Affairs at American Airlines. “We recognized the need for more air service at MLB and are thrilled to bring this new opportunity to connect Melbourne with our Philadelphia hub. As an American Airlines hub, service to Philadelphia gives travelers the option to fly to more than 120 destinations worldwide, including recently announced destinations like Morocco and Iceland.”
Weekly nonstop service on Saturdays began in February, and the proven demand has demonstrated the need for the new daily service. These flights help fill the void of a longtime needed connection to Philadelphia, which is MLB’s fourth largest market.
“This new daily nonstop service is a huge accomplishment for our airport,” said Greg Donovan, A.A.E., executive director at MLB. “We aren’t stopping here and continue to work on bringing more travel options for our community, but in order to achieve new domestic air service, it is vital our community proves their support for these flights.”
“It’s simple. All we ask is to check MLB when planning your travel,” added Donovan.
New daily service to Philadelphia begins just weeks after TUI, the world’s leading holiday company, announced MLB will become its new gateway to Florida for all of its UK customers beginning in 2022. To accommodate the anticipated surge of international traffic, plans to renovate and expand the airport’s terminal infrastructure and amenities are underway that will benefit all MLB passengers and airlines.
Each day, American Airlines now departs PHL at 9:17 a.m., arriving in Florida at 11:54 a.m., and then departs MLB at 12:24 p.m., arriving back in Philadelphia at 2:48 p.m. American Airlines’ new daily flights can be booked at AA.com.
