Pond is pleased to announce that the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) has recognized our partner, Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), with an Envision® Silver award. The airport’s Taxiway and Runway 9L Pavement Replacement Project received the accolade for its sustainable design and application.
As the key partner in a joint venture collaboration, Pond and the Aviation Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) team developed the design solutions for replacing pavement in the Center Airfield Complex and adjacent taxiways to improve runway conditions. The team also enhanced overall performance by adjusting airfield lighting and signage, relocating drainage structures and lines, constructing an embankment, and modifying airfield striping and navigational aid (NAVAID) structures.
To assess the project’s overall impact, each element was evaluated by the established Envision framework. The categories accounted for how the project improved quality of life, displayed leadership, navigated resource allocation, considered the natural world, and identified appropriate responses to climate risks.
“Working with the busiest passenger airport in the world, we are always mindful that our projects are viewed on a global scale. We decisively set a precedent for conscious, sustainable infrastructure and we are proud of what we have achieved with this endeavor,” said Hugh Weaver, vice president of aviation.
Pond embraces the opportunity to collaborate with client organizations like the City of Atlanta’s Department of Aviation (DOA) to advance sustainable initiatives and guide progress toward responsible infrastructure.
