AZO Sees Air Traffic Recovery Continue in July

Aug. 17, 2020

The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport continues the road to recovery amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The number of passengers in July jumped 43 percent from June. However, the number is still 77.8 percent less than July 2019 passenger numbers.

“The growth is a result of American and Delta increasing the number of flights to AZO and SW Michigan’s need and desire to travel via air. Kalamazoo is tracking better than the national average and the airlines are returning flights to those markets that are responding to increased service. The quicker SW Michigan travelers return to AZO, the faster airlines will increase flights” said Airport Director, Craig Williams.

Individually, both American and Delta saw their numbers increase dramatically as a result of the increased capacity. United’s numbers for July were down and reflect their presence for only the first week before their three-month hiatus. United plans to return on Oct. 1.

  • American Airlines passengers totaled 2,213, down 63.4 percent
  • Delta Air Lines passengers totaled 3,744, down 77 percent
  • United Air Lines passengers totaled 324, down 94.6 percent (four total operations)
