Kansas City International Airport Reports September Passenger Traffic
The city of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 312,390 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in September, a 67.2% decrease from September 2019. Passenger boardings were down 67.2%, with a total of 156,672 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 3,455,392, down 61.1%. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 1,719,371, down 61.2%.
Air cargo tonnages for all carriers, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, were up 3.3% in September with a total of 16.9 million pounds handled. Year to date, 145.8 million pounds have been handled, down 7.6%. Air freight handled at KCI during September amounted to 16.6 million pounds, up 5.8% year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is down 6.2% with a total of 143.5 million pounds handled. Air mail for September was down 62.0% from September 2019 with 228,847 pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2020 is down 52.1% from 2019 with 2.3 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for September 2020 was 91. Service was offered to 28 nonstop markets. There was an average of 18,062 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 7 daily arrivals for September.
The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Mo., and is supported wholly by airport user charges. No general fund tax revenues are used for the administration, promotion, operation, or maintenance of the airports in the system.
