Gerald R. Ford International Airport Recognized Again for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Gerald R. Ford International Airport has again received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2019 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
The certificate, the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, represents a significant accomplishment by the Ford Airport’s team. The award is given to government entities that meet a high standard and demonstrate a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate their financial story as well as motivate community members and potential users to read the financial report. This is the Airport’s 27th consecutive GFOA award.
“We are pleased to again be recognized by the GFOA for our efforts in providing a robust yet engaging annual report,” said Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority President and CEO Torrance Richardson. “As a catalyst for economic development throughout West Michigan, we strive to hit the mark every year as part of our commitment to being transparent with the community.”
Each year, the GFOA reviews the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report of government entities and provides feedback to improve future reports. Along with any feedback, the GFOA awards a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting to entities that publish a quality report that meets its standards.
The GFOA review committee is made up of many financial executives of government entities throughout the country, as well as CPAs who specialize in governmental accounting. The committee bases the award on the quality of the current year’s report and the incorporation of feedback on past years’ reports.
