OAK Prepared for Busiest Weekend so far this Year

May 27, 2021

Oakland International Airport (OAK), the second busiest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area, is prepared for a busy holiday travel weekend as the peak summer travel season begins. The airport expects more than 130,000 travelers over the five-day holiday period from May 27 through June 1. May 28 is expected to be the busiest day with over 30,000 passengers expected to use the East Bay airport on 110 peak-day departures to 46 nonstop destinations.

Passenger traffic has been steadily growing at OAK in recent months, outpacing the other two Bay area airports on a percentage basis. OAK has implemented a variety of amenities for those traveling this summer. These include:

  • Free COVID-19 testing, including for those requiring pre-travel testing
  • Re-opened restaurants and shops, with expanded hours of operation
  • Re-opened on-airport Economy Parking Lot, with close-in parking available from as low as $17 per day with coupon

OAK reminds everyone that face coverings are mandatory when in the airport and when flying.

“We expect this weekend to be the busiest we’ve experienced this year,” said Bryant L. Francis, Port of Oakland Director of Aviation. “We ask that travelers arrive at the airport early, wear a mask as required, and travel responsibly as we head into a busy summer here at OAK.”
