San Juan Is the Latest New Service Coming to STL
Southwest Airlines is set to offer new service into and out of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico from St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) beginning this November. In the airline’s own announcement, Southwest says, “It is a response to growing customer demand for more access to beaches.” They add that the airline is offering an “escape to the Caribbean.”
For those in St. Louis, it is an opportunity to have direct service from the Gateway City to the capitol of the Caribbean’s Island of Enchantment. This will be the first time the airline has offered direct service to Puerto Rico.
“We cannot be more excited to learn that Southwest is offering this direct service to San Juan,” said Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, STL Director. “We believe the people in our region are ready to take advantage of any direct service an airline serving St. Louis Lambert International Airport has to offer. We’re certain San Juan will become another of the successful destinations available for travelers using our airport.”
Southwest will begin flying weekly to SJU on Saturdays as of November 13. Tickets for flights going to SJU go on sale today (June 10). At STL, Southwest operates out of Terminal Two and currently is the largest airline providing service at the airport with over 60 percent of the market share.
