New York Stewart International Airport Offering Expanded Service To Popular Destinations

Oct. 25, 2021
New York Stewart Airport’s service expands to multiple locations in Florida as Frontier Airlines launches new routes departing from Hudson Valley.

On the heels of the Port Authority’s five-point strategic plan, air travelers using New York Stewart International Airport (SWF) can now take advantage of expanded air service originating at the airport, just in time for the busy holiday and winter travel season.

As of Oct. 25, Frontier Airlines will provide flights to Orlando International Airport four times a week, as well as flights to Miami and Tampa three times a week starting Nov. 2. Frontier will operate a total of 10 weekly departures from New York Stewart. The added service represents an important investment in the Hudson Valley region’s development and growth.

In keeping with its commitment to re-energize the airport, the port authority has been meeting with numerous carriers – including Frontier – to discuss the New York Stewart market and new opportunities for both carriers and customers.

“The addition of Frontier Airlines is a significant accomplishment for New York Stewart International Airport and a big win for our customers, particularly during these challenging times,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “We are delivering on the port authority’s core mission to re-energize the airport and keep the entire region moving.”

“Through our five-point strategic plan for New York Stewart International airport and the launch of Frontier’s nonstop air service to these destinations, travelers will have more affordable options, that bring speed, comfort, and the convenience of traveling through the newly expanded airport,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “Today’s announcement will provide support for Governor Hochul’s economic development agenda by increasing travel opportunities for our New York Stewart customers in the growing Hudson Valley region.”

“Frontier’s new flight service to Florida will benefit not only Orange County, but the entire region,” said Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus. “It will also create new opportunities for tourism, business, and economic development. As Orange County continues to grow as a tourism destination, I know that Frontier will enjoy success here.”

“We’re excited to launch service at New York Stewart International Airport with the only nonstop flights from the airport to Orlando International Airport, the most convenient airport for the great theme parks, along with nonstop service to Miami and Tampa beginning next week,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial, Frontier Airlines. “New York Stewart marks Frontier’s seventh airport in New York state, and we’re proud to continue growing our extensive route network with convenient airports and affordable nonstop flights to popular destinations.”

The Port Authority developed a five-point strategic plan to expand the number of carriers and airport services, which includes:

• Modernizing the air carrier incentive program to attract and retain new carriers and expand service to new markets.

• Leveraging partnerships with regional and state agencies, and working with tourism and trade organizations to promote the airport as a driver of economic activity.

• Hiring an experienced marketing firm to increase the airport’s visibility in both the international marketplace and in the Hudson Valley region, and to strengthen the airport’s brand.

• Developing a joint marketing strategy with key businesses and attractions in the Hudson Valley on to promote SWF.

• Entering into an agreement with a new best-in-class airport operator -- Future Stewart Partners – including an expanded scope for the building of a modern concessions program and collaboration with the Port Authority on attracting new air service to New York Stewart.

The five-point plan, which includes an updated incentive program for new air service was instrumental in securing Frontier as New York Stewart’s newest carrier. With the increase in population in the region and the opening of Legoland, the Port Authority is working to attract more carriers and routes to the airport.

Currently, New York Stewart offers nonstop air service to Myrtle Beach, Orlando-Sanford, Punta Gorda, Savannah and St. Pete-Clearwater via Allegiant, which has steadily grown its network of flights operating from the airport.
