The USO located at Fayetteville Regional Airport is now open to service active duty U.S. military members and retirees. The USO facility, located in the B Concourse of the airport, closed at beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility reopened last week.
“We are super excited to finally reopen the Fayetteville Airport USO to our traveling service members, their families, and military retirees. We look forward to serving our nation’s finest as they travel from the center of the universe to wherever they are heading,” USO Center Operations and Programs Manager for the Sandhills Area Brian Knight said.
The facility features a lounge area with a TV, charging area, kid’s room, snacks, and drinks. The Airport USO, staffed by volunteers, offers information services and unit support for soldiers and their families.
The USO facility is open daily from 6:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. to service customers. It will be open during those same hours on Thanksgiving Day. All travelers must wear a mask while in the lounge and throughout the airport terminal.
“I am extremely happy that the USO is open for the holidays! The airport ridership returned to pre-COVID levels in June of this year and we are happy to see the USO return as well to serve our military travelers,” Airport Director Toney Coleman said.
As travel and demand increase, the USO hopes to extend hours back to pre-COVID levels. Volunteers are needed to fill extra time slots required to open for afternoon and evening flights. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to download the USO Volunteer Community app and register.
