Tennessee Concrete Pavement Project Recipient of 2021 Excellence in Concrete Pavement Award
The Southeast Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association announces that a Tennessee concrete project has been recognized by the American Concrete Pavement Association’s 2021 Excellence in Concrete Pavement Awards.
Taking home Gold in the Reliever & General Aviation Airports category was R.C. Construction Co. Inc., for their Savannah Hardin County Airport Runway Replacement project in Savannah, Tennessee. Owned by the airport and engineered by A2H, the project required full-depth demolition and reconstruction of Runway 01/19 and taxiway connectors using 68,225 SY of 7.5-inch, P-501 concrete. With onsite materials testing and mitigated concerns around the stability of the base and subbase taken care of, R.C. Construction was able to finish the project in two-thirds of the allotted calendar days.
“Our association was very pleased to see concrete chosen for this local airport project,” said Greg Dean, ACPA-SE executive director. “Concrete pavement’s lower lifecycle costs and improved resilience to withstand severe weather events will pay dividends for this community for years to come. As observed at other airports that have chosen the durability of concrete, it means added business.”
“This year’s group of awardees represents some of the most innovative projects in our industry,” said Laura O’Neill Kaumo, ACPA president and CEO. “Congratulations to these projects on a job well done. You set a standard for others in the industry to work towards, and you represent the best we have to offer.”
